Built By:

Project Description
Gaviidae Common is a specialty retail center with five levels of retail and two and one half levels of below grade parking. Its name, "Gaviidae", is the latin name for Minnesota's state bird, the loon. The facility is anchored by Saks Fifth Avenue. The design features a french limestone exterior in beige tones accented by glass display windows and slate. A patterned, vaulted ceiling integrated with skylights tops the five-story atrium, and the roofing is of EPDM. The interior features a blue and ivory color scheme, accented by red, olive and gold leaf. A translucent glass stairway, lit from below, connects ground to skyway level. Waterfalls cascade from pools on the fifth level to ground level, with a 20-foot bronze loon seemingly taking flight from the water on the third level.
