The Lafarge Second Board Line Addition in Silver Grove Kentucky consists of a 523,000 sf addition to the existing plant for the installation of a new board line adjacent to the existing board line. The Second Board Line Addition includes the installation of an Alstom single cage mill and two single Impulsion Mills. In addition, PCL installed new stucco handling systems, dry additive systems, 1790 lf of board line conveying systems and a 60' x 480' 14 deck dryer as well as modifying the existing board line. Seventy-five thousand cubic yards of fill was hauled onto the site in preparation for the erection of the pre-engineered metal building addition which circumferences the existing building. PCL also installed 3,545 track feet of train-rail; 324,046 sf of asphalted truck parking areas; 1,200 tons of structural steel for the mill and additive building additions and other site improvements.
The Lafarge Silver Grove facility is the world's largest wallboard manufacturing facility in terms of production capacity. The fast track project was constructed in 18 months while maintaining truck and rail shipping traffic at an average rate of 120 trucks per day. The Lafarge Second Board Line project surpassed 500,000 work hours without a Lost-Time Accident.
