Project Description
This project opened in early 2003, accommodates approximately 70 species of exotic, rare and endangered birds. Features include numerous above-ground and under-water features that allow zoo visitors a hands-on experience throughout the exhibit. The project scope consisted of the reconstruction of a free-flight area, hardscape and landscape, an aviary enclosure, visitor's center with conservation and educational exhibits and a service building. Two pools were constructed for aquatic birds and other wildlife where visitors can experience underwater viewing. Two shelter pavilions were constructed within this area as well as a pre-flight area and will include hardscape and landscaping. This pre-flight area includes an orientation/education exhibit building and conservation and educational exhibits and children's play area with dig site. This dig site/play area was planned to let children and adults alike compare the similarities between dinosaurs and birds.
