Project Description
The Central Waterfront Project, or Pier 66, presented several unique challenges throughout its construction. The buildings are situated on a marine structure requiring 1,600 precast concrete and structural steel piles driven into a site containing the remnants of three distinct structures built and demolished over the last 100 years. Challenges also consisted of the demolition of a 68-year-old bridge and the setting of a double-decker pedestrian bridge over a major city thoroughfare. Work could not impede the normal traffic flow, creating many logistical problems which were successfully overcome. The buildings on the project contain over $12 million of high-end finishes and many miles of cabling for a state-of-the-art video conferencing center with the capability of multi-language simultaneous translation. PCL's work at Pier 66 has permanently transformed the Seattle waterfront, providing the city with a day mooring for boaters and public spaces for people's enjoyment.
