Cypress Semiconductor Renovation/Expansion

Cypress Semiconductor (MN) Inc. is one of four fabrication facilities operated by Cypress Semiconductor in the US. Cypress produces silicon wafers, each wafer being an 8" circular disk containing 100s of electronic chips. The Class 1 Cleanroom produces 0.35 micron S RAMs in high volume.

This project was an extensive renovation and expansion of an existing operational facility. Eight sub-projects were completed in one year. This included demolition of an existing Class 10 cleanroom and the construction of a new Class 1 cleanroom. An addition to the existing gowning room doubled the facility's gowning capacity. The test/sort and CMP areas expanded into existing office areas. All construction activities were planned, coordinated, and completed without disrupting existing facility operations. An existing gas bunker was modified and remodeled. A second level addition was constructed over the existing office building. This addition is 40,000 sf with structural steel/metal deck and exterior curtain wall system. The office addition includes a new elevator and stairwells.
