Scotiabank Place (formerly Corel Centre)

Scotiabank Place Aerial Night Shot

Location:

Ottawa, ON

Built By:

PCL Constructors Eastern Inc.
Project Features/Highlights

The arena level is 25 feet below grade and the hub of most of the behind the scenes activity at the Corel Centre.  Ice remains during the NHL season and a sub-floor is placed over the ice when the Corel Centre hosts concerts and other events. This practice allows the Corel Centre to often host two events on the same day. Special retractable seating platforms allow the arena floor to be expanded to 22,000 square feet. The main stage measures 60 feet wide by 40 feet deep. The Senators play on the NHL's regulation ice surface of 85 wide by 200 feet long, but it can be expanded to 100 feet wide for Olympic and international events.   Four performer dressing rooms, three team rooms, as well as the Ottawa Senators dressing room and private workout facility can all be found on this level.  The arena level also features three production offices, as well as a crew locker room.   The Ottawa Senators and Corel Centre administrative offices are also situated on this level.

Project Description

With a seating capacity of 18,500, the Scotiabank Place is the largest sports and entertainment facility in the region, hosting an anticipated 2.5 million visitors a year and over 175 events. The Scotiabank Place features 148 executive suites on three levels with the first 56 suites just 16 rows from the ice surface. The facility also boasts three full service restaurants, an 800-seat banquet hall, meeting rooms, a fitness club and a sports medicine clinic as well as office and retail space. The building itself is approximately 630,000 sf situated on a 98-acre subdivision. Forty-eight acres of this total are developed to provide parking spaces for over 6,500 cars.
