Project Description
The project is a 21,000 sf addition to the Museum of Art in Oceanside. The addition was constructed between the existing building and an operating fire hall. It consisted of one level below grade and two levels above. The basement level contains the carpentry shop, exhibition design and numerous storage rooms. The ground level has a gallery, lobby and exterior courtyard. Level 2 also has a gallery, boardroom and the Directors Offices. There are several utility relocations that had to be completed before the earthwork and shoring could proceed. The foundation and ground level slab are cast-in-place concrete. The above grade structure is steel and wood truss joints with wood framed walls. The exterior skin is plaster and aluminum curtain wall combination with a built up roof. A six panel aluminum sliding glass door provides access to the exterior courtyard. The interior finishes are painted gypsum board walls and acoustical ceilings. The majority of the flooring on the second floor is ceramic tile while the ground level is colored concrete. A pre-action dry pipe fire sprinkler system was installed along with a fire alarm system. Other systems installed are for security and sound. One three stop hydraulic elevator services the building.
